Pontiac Repair: Cigarette lighter., cigarette lighter, test light

Question
My cigarette lighter on my 99 grand am stopped working. I checked the fuse and it doesn't  appear to be blown. I disconnected the well of the cigarette lighter but it was connected to a white base where the wires connect in. Is that part of the cigarette lighter or is it a base that can be disconnected? Every replacement well i've seen doesn't have the base so i'm having trouble finding something to replace it if its not two seperate parts.

Answer
Hi Andrew:

At the base of the lighter where the plug is there is a orange and a black wire. use a 12 volt test light across the 2 wires and if it light the lighter should work unless the element it's self has burnt out. If you push the element in and it pops right back out the base is bad put if you press it in and it stays in but will not heat up the element is bad. Get only origianl equipment parts for this aftermarket parts do not fit right and will cause the fuse to blow. Good luck :)
