Pontiac Repair: Pontiac Sunfire 2002 will not turn over, 2002 pontiac sunfire, pontiac sunfire

Question
Hello,

I have a 2002 Pontiac Sunfire (120,000 miles) that will not turn over. When I turn the key, I hear a "Click" then nothing. My Battery was replaced about 8 months ago and I just had it checked. My Starter was replaced about 4 months ago also. The problem just appeared in the last 3 weeks. I can get the car to start after repeated attempts to turn on also. When it does, it feels "normal" too.

Thanks in advance!

Answer
Hi erik:

If you hear the starter lick it's getting the chank volatgae from the key or at least partial crank voltage. You can have a bad remanufactured starter that's causing this issue. Or your not getting full battery voltage to the starter motor either from a bad battery cable or a bad connection where your loosing the crank voltage between the ignition switch to the starter motor. You can have a bad ground connection going to the engine from the battery or a bad body ground under the battery tray. it can be any number of things. My first guess would be a "cheap" rebuilt aftermarket starter that you bought? If your going the aftermarket route only get one from one of the better big box auto parts stores like NAPA or Carquest. Good luck :)
