Pontiac Repair: 2004 Pontiac Aztek, 2004 pontiac aztek, pontiac aztek

Question
QUESTION: I have a 2004 Pontiac Aztek and just recently had the speedometer cluster replaced at a local dealership and when I got it back, I noticed that the lcd display on my stereo was not fully working. Could they have possibly bumped something in there to mess it up or could it be a blown out light in the stereo ? If it is a blown out bulb, is there a way to replace it or do I have to replace the whole stereo ?

ANSWER: Hi Julie:

the 2 are not related at all. Actually what happend to the radio is very common. the led's i n the radio burnt out or part of the display burnt out. the led's are not replaceable you need to get an exchange radio. or one from a junk yard. the only thing is if you gte a used radio froma junk yard it has to be the EXACT same part # that vinatge radio there were all kinds of radio's that looked the same on the outside but the internal workings are different and the radio once replaced needs to be setup to match the car's options with a gm scan tool. good luck :)

QUESTION: Hi, I have one other issue with my Aztek. When I'm driving, if I hit the gas, it seems to lose power or hesitate and then if I let up on the gas and then give it gas again it will pick up speed. I thought maybe it had something to do with the tranny but took it to a shop and they said that wasn't the problem so I'm at a loss with what it could be. The check engine light is not on, otherwise I would have had it scanned. I just recently had the converter changed so I know that is not the problem. Could it be a sensor or maybe the pcv is plugged up ?

Answer
Hi Julie:

It can be a lot of things. A pcv system issue is not going to cause a hesitation unless there is a leak in the system and in that case it would withere casue a ses lamp to come on of a higher then normal idel speed. I would looka at a few things fuel pressure may be an issue or fuel volume either of these could be caused by a restricted or plugged fuel filter. You could have a mass air flow sensor that is not reading corretcly..  if this happens all the time driving the car with an engine scan tool attached who ever is repairing it should be able to pick up on what ever the root cause is here. some or more of the engine data sensors should point to what the problem is. without of seeing it it's hard to say what the problem is but I would look at those areas first an foremost that I mentioned earlier in the answer. good luck :)
