Pontiac Repair: PONTIAC G6 2006 V6, chevron techron fuel system, cell phone charger

Question
QUESTION: I have two questions/problems Todd-
#1-My car has 2 cigarette lighter spots.  My cell phone charger doesn't light up when plugged into either port, so I changed the fuse, and they still do not work.  What may the problem be?

#2-My car cranks for longer than it should...like when I turn the key to crank it, it keeps cranking and then dies.  It does not do this everytime but has done it off and on for about a yr. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

ANSWER: Hi Heather:

Is this a new cell phone charger or one that you have had for a while and just quit working? some of these adaptors do not fit in the power outlets right and will not work. DOn't ask me why I don't know But I have seen some not work in some of the cars power outlets. Did you try another person's charger in your car to see if that works? If that one doesn't work either I would check the power outlet with a 12 volt test light to see if it indeed has power and ground at the outlet.
As for the starting issue if this car has a lot of miles on it say 30K plus I would have the throttle body and plate cleaned. Also try a bottle of "Chevron Techron" fuel system treatment in the tank follow the bottle directions as to how much treatment to the amount of gas and run a tank through with that and see it that does it. If not I'm not 100% sure but I belive there was a bulletin for this issue but It may have just been 2005's with a V6. It involved a reprogram of the engine computer and possably a bad underhood fuse box But the fues box issue will set truble codes in the engine computer that leads to the box issue. Good luck :)

QUESTION: Where would I find a 12V test light? And what if it has no power or ground? nothing I plug into either cig lighter works/has power...

Answer
your can get a cheap test lamp at a car parts store. the very center of the outlet is the 12v supply and the metal case on the outside is the ground. just make sure you don't touch the center and the case together with the lamp or you will blow the fuse again.
