Pontiac Repair: 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix GT, mass air flow sensor, air flow sensor

Question
Todd, my car is a 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix GT w/ a 3800 series engine.  Recently it has started jerking while driving.  Once while pulling out of a parking space it just died on us.  Then the check engine light came on.  Have you heard of this problem before w/ Grand Prixs or know what could be wrong?

Answer
Hi Laurie:

It can be a few things from a crank sensor issue which is what gives the engine the spark it need to run and that could cause a stalling issue but not ususally a service engine lamp to come on. They usually just cut out so fas the engine computer can't set a code for it. It sounds more to me like possably a mass air flow sensor issue. If you stop and one of the big box car parts stores they scan core codes for free and if it has a p0101 code the air flow sensor is the culprit. Good luck :)
