Hi,

I opened the hood of my car to change a headlamp and I can't get it to close completely.  The safety latch catches, but not the mechanism below it.  The U shaped piece on the underside of the hood just seems to bounce back.  I tried lubrication, but it didn't work.

well either the latch is broken or binding up but You sair you lubricated it.. Did you use a light lubricating spray like a WD40? If that didn't help it then possbaly the cable is bound up and it's holding the latch in the "open" position. Take a look at the latch where the cable attaches. ther is a lever the cable is hooked onto try pushing the lever to the passenger side of the car with a long screwdriver and see if the lever moves back to the "closed" position. And see if that works in so the cable or lever on the latch is bound up.
