Pontiac Repair: swapping engines...maybe, pontiac sunfire, chevy cavalier

I have a 94 Chevy Cavalier RS w/ 2.2, and a 97 Pontiac Sunfire SE  w/ 2.2.  Will these engines enterchange?

Hi Gordon:

No the 2 will not swap out. the newer 97 engine has different electronics on it. if you have a complete doaner car to take the engine harness and engine computer out of one and puit in to the other you should be okay. The engine block for all intensive purposes are the same the transmission and engine mounts should line up as long as the newer 97 engine was mated with a 3 speed automatic transmission like the 94 had.
