Land Rover Repair: Land rover defender TD5 deisel (2005), land rover defender, fuel pump relay

Question
My defender has started loosing power.  It will idle fine, but when I move off and get up to speeds of around 40mph when I try and accelerate the opposite happens it looses power and I struggle to get 25 -30 out of it.  A couple of days before this started to happen I noticed a high pitched whirring noise coming from the engine compartment when I switched the enging off.  I had a new fuel pump fitted about 6 months ago.

Answer
Hi John,

could it be the fuel pump relay about to fail? Check to make sure its clean and well seated. Perhaps the anti-stall sensor is misbehaving?  I don't know much about it but I've heard this too can cause loss of power at strange intervals.
