Pontiac Repair: Grand Am wont start, rubber mallet, pressure gauge

Question
I have a 2000 V-6 Grand Am that has been running great with no problems, get in this morning and cranks great but wont start, but sometimes when cranking it speeds up kinda like its going to start but doesnt 100,000 miles and a great car until today. Thanks!

Answer
Hey Tom:

1 question when it will not start is the "security" lmap flashing when you try to start it and leave the key in the run position? If so ther is an issue with the factory theft system. More than leiley either the ignition lock cylinder housing or the body control module. If the lamp is not falshing then I would suspect possably the fuel pump stopped working. If you have a fule pressure gauge check that fule pressure this engine needs over 45 PSI to run If noting or it's far lower that is why it will not start. You can try this with come one cranking the car tap the bottom of the gas tank with a rubber mallet and see if it jolts the pump enough to get the pump started and get the car running... Good luck :0
