Pontiac Repair: 92 pontiac grand am, crank shaft, coolant temp

Question
I have a 2.3 four cylinder,92 pontiac grand am.  It startes fine but only runs for a few min until it warms up then dies and will not start for a few min until it seems to cool down.  I have run the codes and no trouble codes are stored. Could the ect sensor go bad and not record in the trouble codes?  I have also replace the cadilitic converter, and checked the fuel delivery.  Should I replace the ect sensor or head in a different direction?

Answer
Hi John:

Well i think you have a tempature issue here but not coolant temp. A coolant temp sensor shouldn't cause a stall condition. I think you have a component here that is getting hot and shutting down or has a bad connection in it and the vibration coupled with the heat it making something cut out. The most likely cause would be a crank shaft sensor that is cutting out and causing the stall. when it quits running you have to see what your missing. Spark, fuel or injector pulse. If your loosing spark and injector puls I'd look at the crank sensor or ignition module. If your loosing fuel pressure then it would be a pump problem. To check injector pulse you need a tool called a noid light, you plug that in place of an injector and crank the engine and the light should blink. to check spark you need a tool called a spark checker. Good luck :)
