Pontiac Repair: Radio / climate control .. stopped working, cold temperatures, climate control

Question
Hi Todd,

i have a 96 Bonneville SE with 280K. Winter is here and the snow is high. I removed the OEM deck (cassette player) out of my bonny and installed an after market one. From the first snow fall by deck started failing and usually didnt show any display or it was usually dimmed out but did play my cd's. Now it doesnt want to turn on at all, so i thought it broke. I pulled the plastic dash out and removed the deck and i tried installing a different one and same thing, so i put everything back together with the dead deck that i used previously. NOW my digital climate control (heater/AC) functions don't work, all it shows is 3 lines where the exterior temperature suppose to be. Press any button and it doesn't turn on at all. This is really annoying especially when my windows freezes due to cold temperatures. Fuses are all fine.
Another thing to mention is the black plastic thing thats underneath the front of the car (behind the front bumper) was damaged and ripped off due to high snow. If thats any help.

Thanks Todd and have a happy new year.

Answer
Hi Sylwek:

well it can be a bucnch of things. Back track to what you had apart to make sure you didn't unplug anything or pinch any wires. You could have ground issue being that your having issues with more than 1 accessory in the dash baord. You could have a bad ground wire or bad ground connection. If all the fuses are good the next thing to look at is the grounds. If the grounds are good then I would say the climate control is just a fluke that the control head wen bad. With this many miles on a car the sky's the limit it could be just about anything. I think what came off under the bumper was the air dam and that will not have anything to do with your issues.
