Pontiac Repair: g6 airbag reset, diagnostic scanner, airbag service

QUESTION: What codes do I need to know to reset the airbag service soon code? I have replaced airbag, module (set to factory settings), clockspring. I still service airbag. I am going to hook it up to a diagnostic scanner but need to know what codes to put in to reset it. I need to sync it with the other modules how do I do this?

ANSWER: Hi Sandy:

I don't think an off brand scan tool will reset the lamp on one of these. You need a GM scan tool and there is a special function option on that scan tool that will program the air bag module. and that tool will also learn the serial numbers between the air bag module and the body control module. there is no codes need to be inputed the scan tool does it by it's self it's part of the scan tools software.

QUESTION: The diagnostic tool i am talking about is a commercial grade snap on. This guy works on cars and trucks for a living and has one of the big expensive ones he uses it is not a hand held device. Will that have the software that is needed or this being such a new car the pontiac place is the only place to take it. Thank you so much you have been so very helpful. I don't know if that will work or not. My gut feeling is NO but you never know. They make the stuff this way so your pretty much forced to goto the dealer to get it fixed. it stinks but that the way it is. Like I said with the dealership scan tool it's just a key press and the magic takes place. No inputing numbers or serial numbers nothing the scan tool does the whole thing. I just did one of these this past week a big collision shop up the street from my dealer sent one of these down to us it took me 5 minutes to get it all programmed and serial numbers learned etc...
