Pontiac Repair: Theft Lock on Grand Am, theftlock, pontiac grand am

I turn the key and the theftlock on my pontiac grand am 1997 comes on. it blinks for 10 minutes and goes solid. i turn the car off and restart and it sometimes works. How can I avoid the theftlock coming on in the first place? It is very annoying having to wait 10 minutes everytime I start my car!

More then likley the ingition lock cylinder housing has failed and every time to try to start the car being that the sensor is bad the security system tried to relearn the code that sesnor is putting out and that's why the light is flashing. 9 times out of 10 that is the problem with these cars. the lock housing needs to be replaced and that sesnor reading will have to be then learned to the secuirty module. good luck :)
