Pontiac Repair: 02 Pontiac Grand Prix Gt, mass air flow sensor, mass air flow

Question
I have a 2002 Pon Grand Prix automatic, 110,000 miles. This started several days ago it starts up just fine and when it gets goin, bogs down and hesiates to switch gears, one it gets past 30mph, its fine. It has its good days and then  days like today where it did it the entire way home. Check engine light came on once and turned off. Yesterday it didnt do it but still feels like there is no power until getting past that 30mph mark.If i stop at a redlight/stop sign and then get goin it does the same thing for about 15 seconds, then is fine.If i try to gas it, it gets worse. Some ppl say this is an 02 sensor goin out, any ideas what this could be?

Answer
Hi Sherry:

I doubt it's an o2 sensor if they go bad they shouldn't cause the engine to hesitate and bog down. what engine is in this? I'd like to know what code set that caused the service engine lamp to come on. If this is a 3800 V6 I would suspect possably a bad mass air flow sensor. If it's a 3100/3400 it could be a plugged exhaust or restricted.. There is a special extended warranty policy on that year car this is the policy # 05551 it covers plugged catalitic converters for up to 10 years or 120,000 miles  actually if it's a 3800 it could be plugged as well and I belive that policy covers the 3800 engine as well. Last thing could be a plugged or restricted fuel filter. Good luck :)
