Pontiac Repair: 1993 Pontiac Transport, car repair shop, pontiac transport

My brother has a 1993 Pontiac Transport and the transmission has gone kaput. He has been quoted 1500 for the parts and labor to replace this. It seems high as I'm sure vehicle not worth much more than that. I'm his older sister and trying to help him out as he is useless with card. I think he's getting ripped off. Also I live out of state how do I help make sure he is going to reputable car repair shop. He does not the have good credit and cannot get another car. Please advise.

well a few things. $1500.00 is not all that bad a price if it's a complet rebuild. The issue her is Is the van worth it? Porbably not! But if the van is in decent shape and it will last another couple of years then it can be worth the price of the repair considering he can't afford another one. You never know you can can fine another older van for that same amount of money that is in better shape then the one he has now. The unknown ther is what is lurking to break on that one. At least with the one he had he knows what he has..
