Pontiac Repair: 1997 Bonneville SSE Headlights, head lamps, lamp control

My inteirior headlight switch no longer manually controls my headlights in the day or night. My headlights do automatically come on during the day when the car is put in drive but not at night what could the problem be. i tried changeing the light switch but that is not the problem please help.

Hi Larry:

well it can be a few things. That car has a sensor in the dash that sees the darkness and tells the auto lamp control module to turn on the head lamps. It can be either one of those parts. I have also seen the lamp control module connectors burn out on these cars. I'm not 100% sure where the module it is on that year car it's either on the left side of the steering column on the under side of the dash or it's mounted on the fire wall directly below the heater hox behind the floor vents. On the fire wall is where I want to say it is. take a look at the connectors fist to make sure they are not burnt up. Good luck :)
