Pontiac Repair: struts on 2000 sunfire, shock assembly, pontiac sunfire

Question
QUESTION: i was wondering how you change the struts on the back of a 2000 pontiac sunfire. and what i need, i see some come with coil springs on them and others are just struts. any info is helpful thanks

ANSWER: Hi Heather:

No special tools needed other than light duty strut spring compressors to hold the spring in place while you replace the shock assembly.  It's really a very easy job as long as you get a tool that will SEAFELY hold the spring compressed while you chnage the shock. You don'r have to buy the complet assembly with the springs on them. Just the shocks It's cheaper that way. I will advise you to buy new upper mounts for the shocks they go bad on those cars all the time Still with athe price of the shock and the mount It's gonna be cheaper than buying the whole thing. Good luck :)
