Pontiac Repair: 2001 GRAND AM GT1 SEDAN ODOMETER ISSUE, ac delco, odometer

Question
2001 GRAND AM GT1 SEDAN.  96,250 MILES.  DROVE HOME TODAY ON INTERSTATE AND NOTICED THAT MY ODOMETER (DIGITAL) WAS ACTING WEIRD.  THE 9 WOULD SOMETIMES READ 8 AND IT WOULD FLUCTUATE.  THEN IT MIGHT HAVE A DECIMAL IN THE MILES LIKE IT WAS TRYING TO READ THE TRIP ODOMETER INSTEAD.  MOST OFTEN IT WOULD SHOW THE MILES AND THEN SAY TRIP AFTER IT LIKE IT WAS READING THE TRIP ODOMETER. OCCASIONALLY IT WOULD GO BACK TO NORMAL.  I DONT KNOW WHATS GOING ON WITH IT. IM MIFFED?!?

Answer
Hi Jennifer:

well if everything else on the dash is working okay meaning the speedo and the gauges then I would say the issue is with the cluster assembly "speedo head" it's self and it's going to have to be swapped out for a new one or have that one sent out for repairs. The cluster on that car is colid sate meaning electronic and not repairable by the dealer/repait shop. at the dealer we get them from authorized AC delco repair centers. they send us an excahnge unit and send them yours back to get repaired for the next guy/gal that has an issue with one of them. Good luck :)
