Pontiac Repair: 1995 Pontiac Grand Am, pontiac gran, pontiac grand am

Question
Our 1995 Pontiac Gran Am has been diagnosed with the passlock system failure by the dealer.  However, the fix is $500.00  my question is....Is it an option to purchase a bypass kit and have it installed for a much cheaper price?  I found the PLJX kit which I believe fits that model for $75.00 and an aftermarket install of $50.00 to $75.00.  Before we go this route we would like your expert opinion.  Thank You!

Answer
Hi Tami:

Yes those work but they have a pretty high failure rate. and if they are not intslled right they will fail too. $500.00 seems a bit steep to repair the problem you have. If you know exactly what they wanted to replace EG: ignition lock houseing then shop around and see if you can get it fixed cheaper. The correct way to fix it is with the right parts and not bypassing the system. good luck :)
