Pontiac Repair: Changing rear rotors on a 1998 Grand Prix, rear rotors, brake job

Question
This is the first time I ever owned a car with rear rotors before and now that it's time to do a brake job, I had a question on changing the rear rotors.  I have been told by a "friend" that the emergency brake has to be removed to change back rotors, and it requires a special tool to do that.  Before I get started, I just wanted to check.  Thank you

Answer
Hey Chuck:

No usually you can get the rotors off with out having any issue with the parking brake. To assure that you vcan get them off try this drive in a safe area like a parking lot at a low speed and gently apply the parking brake top slow the car down. that will wear some of the rust off the inside of the rotor "hat" which is where the parking brake rides. try this 2 times and then you should be able to remove the rotors with out any problems at all. Good luck :)
