Pontiac Repair: 1997 Bonneville SSE 3.8 Dies and stalls and will re-start, fuel pressure gauge, vapor locks

Question
I have the above car and it does the following:  when the temp gauge reaches 215 to 220 it will stall and die.  After sitting for a few minutes it will start and then repeat the stall at the same temp.  new thermostat, water pump, cooling fans are working fine....i do not believe it is a cooling problem.  My thought is that the fuel pump is weak and about out and the fuel vapor locks at temperature.  Other than that I am at a loss to what to try next.  Does this car have a heat sensor kill switch?

Answer
Hi PArk:

Well it seems heat related for sure and ther is no over heat kill. and actaully 220 is on the cool side. I think you on the right track with the fuel pump as possably an issue. It's either that or a spark issue. when it dies put a fuel pressure gauge on the car and see what you have for pressure. This engine needs 44PSI minimum. If it lower that that or none at all you found the problem. If not then get a tool called a spark checker it lookls like a spark plug with a clamp onm the side of it. check for spark on all 6 cylinders. If you have no spark then it's either a ignition module or a crank shaft posotion sensor. The sensors go bad more often than the modules. Good luck :}
