Pontiac Repair: grand am se 2000 stalling problem., fuel pressure gauge, oxygen sensor

Question
the car starts stalling at 2000 rpm in idle and when we get to 30 mph it will spotter and die. will start right back up. we have changed the fuel filter and spark plugs. someone said it could be the fuel injection oxygen sensor. where is this located in the engine?

Answer
Hi Crysteele:

You issue is not with an Oxygen sensor. It's VERY rare that that sensor would cause a stalling issue. But it's is located in the exhaust manifold of the engine. My guess is that the car has a fuel pump that is going bad. Get a fuel pressure gauge and putr it on the engine and let it run untill it starts to spit and sputter and see what the gauge reads. It should be steady around 45 PSI or so. if it drops off when the engine runs bad you found the problem a bad fuel pump! Good luck :}
