Pontiac Repair: clunking brakes, quality shoes, abs brakes

Question
My abs brakes on my 1997 Pontiac sunfire make an awful clunking noise when I first pull away and sometimes seize slightly - moreso when it has been raining - is this just "old age" or should I be worried about it? They seem ok after "drying"!!!

Answer
hi Anne:

tjis is a common issue with the car. I would replace the rear brake shoes. as long as you don't have any wheel cylinder leaking brake fluid onto the shoes in the back. What happens is after time the shoes start to absorbe the moisture in the air and the moisture makes the shoes grab the barke drums when you stop. If the drums are in good shape and not to badly rusted out have them turned when you have the shoes replaced. Buy good quality shoes like Bendix or Rybestos do not buy a cheap $15.00 set of shoes you will have more issye then you have now. Good luck :}
