Pontiac Repair: ignition lock cylinder replacement, pontiac trans am ws6, trans am ws6

Question
2002 Pontiac Trans Am WS6 5.7L LS1 engine with 4L60E transmission. Just had a new key cut and I still have to "jiggle" the lock cylinder several times before the starter engages and the car starts. Easy replacement or special tools required or better off going to the dealership? I just think $450 is a bit much to have a $54 cylinder and $9 key replaced. How is this replaced? Steering wheel removal?

Answer
Hey Joey:

I's an issue with the cylinder it's self. The wires in side the steering colum are broken and wiggeling the key makes good contact and the car will start and run. You do need special tools to replace the cylinder. This is not a do it your self job. due to the fact of the air bag in the steering column along with needs a few special tools. You will need a new cylinder and yet 2 new keys to match the code of the new cylinder you get. Good luck. Sorry to be the barer of bad news.
