Pontiac Repair: car stalling when using turn signal, condensor, money pit

Question
QUESTION: When we use the turn signal the engine stalls.  Any suggestions and what the problem is?

ANSWER: Hi Scott:

What make year and model car is this? I'll take a wild guess and say it's a Grand Prix. If so I would lean towards a bad ignition switch. The contacts in the switch get a high resiatance built up on them and the extra current draw needed to run those extra lamps is robbing the other components of the current they need to run. Just a guess.

QUESTION: Hi Todd.  Thank you very much. You are correct.  It is a 1997 Grand Prix.  My sons are driving it.  I've already put a bunch of money into the front end.  Is a new ignition switch going to be expensive?  I'm wondering if I should just sell it.  The AC doesn't work.  It probably needs a condensor.

Answer
The switch is not all that expensive but It could be other things then the switch just a guess I was right about the model of car though. You could have a power feed that's got high resistance into the switch and it can cause the same issue. The car is almost 12 years old so you have to weigh you options if the car is decent spend a few more $$ and fix it but if it's been a money pit get rid of it! ! !
