Pontiac Repair: exhust manafold to header conection, pontiac montana, manafold

Question
QUESTION: How does the header pipe connect to the exhaust manifold on a Pontiac Montana 2000? I don't see where the header clamp hooks on to header pipe to hold it  against manifold (no flange).

ANSWER: Hey Bill.

There is a flat metal gasket that goes between the converter front pipe and the rear exhaust manifold. There is no conventinal "flange" like on the older cars. ther are just 2 studs and nuts that hold the pipe to the manifold. Hope that helps you out :}

QUESTION: THANKS Todd for quick answer but I don't understand how the two bolts hold the front connecter pipe to the manifold unless mine is broken is the piece where the bolts go through front connecter pipe welded to pipe? mine is not.

Answer
the rear manifold has to studs screwed into the manifold and the converter goes on over the 2 studs and the nuts attach the pipe to the manifold. On those older ones there was a tin gasket that seals the manifold to the pipe. the newer ones use a round composite gasket between the manifold and the pipe. good luck :)
