Pontiac Repair: Instrument panel, pontiac grand prix, gas gauge

Question
I have a 1988 Pontiac Grand Prix an none of the electrical items work on the insrument panel -- speed odometer -- gas gauge -- lights -- the only things that work are the real gauges .

Where do I start looking to try an fix this problem , any help would be greatly app.

Thanks Earl

Answer
Hey Earl:

Does this have a Digital dash? or are all the gauges and indicators have needels? How about the warning lamps? The first thing to look at is for blown fueses. Then check for power and ground at the connector on the back of the insterment cluster. If it's a digital dash It's gonna be the panel it's self is bad more than likely. if it's a needel dash it can be a bad intup to the cluster assembly from the engine computer  but usually they just loose the speedo and odometer. I don not have access to service manuals on the "net" for anything older than 1997 so I can't help you out on the actual wiring to the dash. Hope that helps some this also pre dates my time at the dealership. good luck :}
