Pontiac Repair: Having problems trying to start my 1999 pontiac grand am, pontiac grand am, altenator

Question
I just bought a 1999 pontiac grand am from a friend, everything work in the car, the radio all the lights come on in the car, but it still won't start. I thought it could've been the starter or the altenator, but a friend that know a little about cars told me its my car alarm that might be the problem. So he went under the hood and started it up somehow from the starter. And the car start running, then I cut it off and tried starting it without going under the hood, and it won't start now. And I once heard a chirp when I closed my car door one day. So do you think it could be my alarm or something else, if so if its my alarm can you please help me on how to shut it off, or get rid of it period. HELP ME PLEASE, this the only way I can get to work.

Answer
Hi Gabrielle:

It sounds like it has an aftermarket alram on it and that is the reason the car will not crank. It depends on the type of larm that is in it some of them you have to turn the key to the run position wait for the chirp and then crank the car to make it run I don't know if this is the type you have. It may just be an issue that the alarm it's self is bad and not allowing the car to crank. Without seeing it it's hard to say. those alarms are ties into the "crank" wire for the starter motor. That wire that is cut and spliced into need to be re connected the way it was from the factory. That may be just the ticket to get yoyu back on the road again. The problem is where is the alarm tied into the wiring. Hope that helps you out some?? Good luck :)
