Suddenly began to stall when placed in park.  Will not restart without holding accelerator down after putting in drive runs fine

Hi Dave:

It can be all kinds of things causing this. A bad or dirty idle control valve, dirty throttle plate. depending on what engine is in this car it could be a few other things. That year car had an issue with a wire harness rubbing on an A/C pipe by the radiator. that usually causes a buch of other things to like serrvice engine light on. Just a few things to check.
