Pontiac Repair: 95 firebird 3.4 fan not turning on the right temperature, psi pressure, wont kick

Question
QUESTION: i have a 95 firebird with a 3.4 engine im having problems with the fan because it wont kick in the right temperature but it turns on at 230f thats y it overheats any sugestion pls help..

ANSWER: Hi TJ;

does this car have A/C? If so does it still work??? if it works does the fan come on when the a/c is on? It may not be right away but eventually it does come on after a brief while? 230 seems a bit high but most of the engines are at least at 220 before the fan comes on. If you have a good pressure cap on this and the antifreeze is at least 50/50 with water 230 Is really not all that how when you put a 17 PSI pressure cap that holds the proper pressure. If the fan does not come on with the A/C I would say you have some sort of an issue with the engine control module or the fan control I'm not sure if that car has 2 fans or a 2 speed fan set up. It's been a while since I have worked on one of them. If it has 2 fan the one usually turns on at a lower speed at a lower temp and the second one turns on at a higher temp. Hope that helps some :}

QUESTION: yes my a/c works and the fan turns on whenever i turn the a/c on...i already change the cap to a new one but still doin the same thing i even clean the radiator and change the coolant...i only see one fan on my system. thanks for your reply

Answer
Okay if the fan runs when the A/C is on the computer has control of the fan and that circuit is working. Is the car physically over heating where it's pushing coolant out into the overflow tank or is just the gauge reading high? If it's not physically overheating then maybe you just have an issue with the gauge reading to high.
