Pontiac Repair: 1999 Pontiac Grand Am SE 4 cycl., advance auto parts, fuse box

I just bought this 99 Pontiac Grand Am SE 4 cycl. The service engine soon light stays on during the day but goes turns off at night. The 'change oil' light stays on regularly. What could this be ?

The 2 lights are not related. There is a reset button in the left fuse box to reset the oil life monitor on that car. Google search "oil life reset for 99 grand am" it it will give you a procedure to follow.  As for the service engine soon light it can be all kinds of issues from a loose gas cap to an engine misfire to a bad engine sensor. If you go to an Auto zone,Orieley's,advance auto parts store they will scan your car for codes for free and at least let you know what the code is for Not what to do to fix the car but at least it's a start.
