Pontiac Repair: Alternator, pontiac sunfire, spring tension

I have a 95 Pontiac sunfire and i am having a hell of a time getting the new alternator on because of the belt, is there ne way to loosen the belt so we can get the belt on ?

Yes, loosen the belt tensioner. It is a spring loaded pulley that keeps the belt tight. You didn't tell me which motor you have so I cant tell you which pulley it is, but all you need to do is put a wrench on the bolt in the center of the pulley and turn it, the belt will loosen when you have the correct one but be careful, some of them have a lot of spring tension.
