Pontiac Repair: could this be the problem, crank shaft, 3800 engine

Question
hey, me again, i checked the plug wires, not where they plug into the spark plug but where they plug in under the hood, and i noticed on the posts there was a rust like substance on them, i scraped alot of it off, but the motor still didnt fire up, so you think that could be the prob? change plugs and wires? its a real pain to do on this car

Answer
That rust is not good on the coils. But In most cases it doesn't affect the spark totally It does however add resistance to the secondary wiring in the car. Does the car have spark on the coils? You can take off all the wires and the coild should spark between the terminals when you crank it over if not then you have an issue with the crank shaft sensor or the igniton module. And YES plugs and wires suck on a 3800 engine in that car it's really TIGHT!
