Land Rover Repair: 1999 discovery 2, discovery 2, rocker shafts

Question
hi john, i just bought a used 99 lr disco 2 on june 15, 06' with 95,000 miles. the car looks and seems to be in great condition.  we have noticed 2 things since we've had it.  there is this sort of rattling sound that we hear when we are parked. when we give it gas, the engine revs fine but as soon as it gets back to normal idle, we hear this rattling sound in the engine area; almost like gravel against metal.  we also notice the sound when we are driving slow like thru a parking lot.
the second thing is the rear end drops sporadically when we park sometimes.  i read that this could be the air bags need replacing and possibly switching to springs.
there are no lights coming on indicating any problems.  also, the car salesman haven't given me the manual for the vehicle yet, so we can learn some of the features on it.
oh, i just thought of another question, sorry.
our rear sunroof is apparently broken. i can push up on it and see the sky, so i'm thinking it's not completly closed by the motor. when you push the button to open it, there is no noise or anything coming from it. i opened the latch cover where the gears are that is under the sunroof and notice that things seemed very loose inside the compartment

please advise and sorry so long,
tony

Answer
The rattle could be a broken catalyst, bad rocker shafts, many things.  Find a Land Rover expert and have him listen.

The rear air bags may indeed be dry rotted and leaking.  Again, find a Land Rover expert with an Autologic or similar system - you'll need that to diagnose it.  ALternately, replace with coil springs.  But you'll still need the LR guy to reprogram your SLABS computer so the suspension warning light goes out when you're done.

The sunroof sounds like it needs to be replaced.  That's fairly common.
