Pontiac Repair: 1996 sunfire, switch connectors, scan tool


Question
OK this is my sons car about 3 weeks ago his ignition went bad key was stuck. So i replaced the core and it worked for about 2 weeks no out of the blue the theft light is on and it wont start. Here is the puzzling part when i try to start it the light will flash 6 times then go solid i have tried all the relearn tricks and have even tried a passlock bypass 555lw but still no luck nothing has changed still flashes 6 times then goes solid.

well first of take out what you bypassed the housing withand put it back to way it should be. Then try start the car and release the key and leave it in the run mode for 10 minutes the lamp should tunr off. it depends on the year some will flash constantly for 10 minutes then go out. some will flash for a few seconds then stay on steady for 10 minutes then go out. try that first after the 10 minutes reguardless of the type the lamp should go out. if it does then turn the key off and then wait 30 seconds then start the car. if it will not tunr off you will have to look further into this. I have seen ignition switches cause this issue and I have seen broken wires at the ignition switch connectors. Thare are a lot of possibilities and without a scan tool it's just a guessing game. good luck :}
