Pontiac Repair: 1995 Pontiac Grand Prix ignition, pontiac grand prix, gauge wire

Question
My 1995 Pontiac Grand Prix has a starting problem I believe is in the ignition.  I have to play around with it to start.  It has a new battery, starter and altenator and belt.  What is the cheapest way I can fix this ignition problem and could this be something simple I'm not doing?

Answer
Hi Richard:

I would want to verifie that is the problem fuirst when it will not start have some help you out and check for battery voltage at the purple small gauge wire on the starter motor if it has battery voltage then it's a starter if not then you have to trace it back to the source of the problem. it could be a park neutral switch on the transmission or corrosion in that wire or on a connection. It very well may be the ignition switch it's pretty cheap for that car but you have to disassemble part of the sterring column and the air bag is in ther so it's really not a job for the do it your self person. If you want to check it at the switch you can do that also it's a heavy gauge yellow wire at the switch and at the park neutral switch it changes color to purple. good luck :}
