Pontiac Repair: 1999 pontiac grand prix, blower motor resistor, coolant temp

Question
QUESTION: hello had a water leak down into the blower motor also getting the blower motor resistor wet, from the bad design on the cowl panel on this car, the water did cause the blower motor to go bad so i replaced, and after i replaced the blower motor now when i turn on the blower on either heat or ac it only runs for about 10 seconds then turns off, since that resistor got wet also is that my problem?? also i went to parts store and the 1 showing for my year the plug on the resistor itself isnt the same as what in my car???

ANSWER: Hi Brian:
This is a pretty common issue. did you fix the leak? if not there is a new deflector that goes under the wiper arm cowl this is the part # 15212454 it is for the newer grand prix but it works on the older models like you have. did the water get into the new motor and resistor? if so it may have damaged the new motor. the resistor going bad on these cars is a common issue as well even without the water haelping them to go bad. make sure the connector that plugs into it from the cars wire harness is not corroded. don't waste your time going to get a resistor from the parts store that is not the same as you have in the car get one from the dealer there is a new design for that as well and it looks completly different but the plug from the motor will work properly. the resisitor  now id reallt heavy duty compaierd to the printed circuit board looking thing that's in the car now. hope that helps. any chevy or pontiac delaer should have both the deflector and the resistor. Bothe parts are less than $60.00 combined i would guess. good luck :}

QUESTION: HELLO 1 MORE ?? THE COOLANT TEMP GAUGE WASNT WORKING AT ALL SO I REPLACED THE COOLANT TEMP SENSOR AND THE THERMOSTAT, THINGS STARTED WORKING, THE LAST FEW DAYS I HAVE NOTICED THAT THE TEMP HAS BEEN GETTING HOT AROUND 210? HERE AND THERE I DON'T SEEM TO HEAR THE COOLING FAN RUN ATALL? SO I DISCONNECTED THE FAN FROM THE PLUG AND RAN A WIRE TO THE BATTERY THE FAN STARTS RUNNING, I REPLACED THE THREMOSTAT AGAIN TODAY SINCE I COULD HAVE HAD A FAULTY THRERMOSTAT I JUST REPLACED A FEW WEEKS AGO SO I REPLACED IT AGAIN TODAY AND SAME THING??? IT ONLY GETS HOT LIKE THAT WHEN CAR IS IDILING???? COULD THE WATER PUMP BE GETTING READY TO GO OUT??? OR WHY IS THE FANS NOT RUNNING WHAT CONTROLS THE TURNING ON AND OFF OF THEM??? THANKS SO MUCH... Answer
The cooling fan/fans usually do not come on untill the engine get closer to 220 degrees. Does the A/C work on this car? if the A/C works turn it on and after a short period of time running the pressure inside the a/c system should be high enough to override the coolant temp and run the fan If they run then the computer has the ability to turn them on. I would let it run a bit longer and see if it they come on just don't let it overheat. If it' cold out where you live #1 The a/c will not come on untill the ambient "outside temp" is like over 30 degrees or the under hood temp increases so close the hood and let it get warm. The other thing is the thermostat is usually around 195 degrees and if the outside air temp is cold enough the radaitor will disipate the heat it's self with out the aid of the fans. Take that into consideration. If the a/c works and it's warm enough outside and the fans will not turn on you will have to look into it further like possibly a bad relay or fuse for the fan(s). or even a computer that will not turn on the fan relay... The aid of a scan tool would help you out emensley that way you could see what the computer is seeing and what it is commanding on or off. good luck Hope I didn't confuse you...
