Pontiac Repair: automatic van door will not unlock, barer of bad news, pontiac montana

Question
We have a 1999 Pontiac Montana with an automatic sliding door on the passenger side.  It will not unlock.  I can not manually unlock it either.  I think because the child safty lock is on.  Is there anything I can do to reset the lock system and get the door open?

Answer
Hi Alisa:

If the child lock was on you should still be able to unlock it from the inside of the van even if the power lock stopped working the only thing the child lock is for it to prevent the inside door handle from working. you should still be able to manually un lock it. If not then either the lock assembly is jammed or may rusted up and seized up. the only way to fix it is to take the inside door panel off and look at the lock to see what happened to it. Taking the panel off inside the car is a big pain and usually you wind up braking the panel because it's designed to be removed with the door in the open position. So all around it's a no win situation. Sorry to be the barer of bad news.. Good luck :}
