Answer
Hi Bob.
It could be a number of things. First and foremost I assume it cranks over and sounds normal? That is an over head cam engine so if the timing belt were to have broken the cam doesn't turn and no spark. That aside if your sure the cam it turning the you have some sort of an electrical issue. Fist off I would take the air cleaner off and see if when you crank it the fuel injector is spraying fuel down into the throttle body. If you have fuel into the engine the distributor is sending a engine rpm signal to the computer for fuel delivery. If you do not have any fuel either I would suspect that the problem is in the distributor it's self either an ignition module or the pick up coil in the distributor is bad. Those used to have issues where the distributor would fill up with oil and then no start. If you have fuel but no spark it could still be an ignition module issue. Last thing to check would be this if it has fuel delivery The coil has 2 2 wire connectors I belive.... The one connector goes to the distributor and the 2nd is the power and ground make sure with the key in the run position that the second connector indeed has 12 volts + and a good ground. To check this do not use a volt meter if you have a test light with a true bulb in it check it with that. You may have some sort of resistance in either the ground or power wire and a volt meter will not show the problem. Hope that helps and that I didn't make it to confusing. :)
