Pontiac Repair: timing chain specs, timing chain replacement, pontiac sunbird

hi i would like to know if you good help me with a problem i,am having with my motor my timing chain went on a 91 pontiac sunbird 3.1 multi port fi me and my brother replaced the chain and followed every step in the book and all were getting is spuder true the carb we also tried the timing in different place so if you could help i,d appreciate it

What was the reason for the timing chain replacement?
Did it break while driving?
Maintance? Rebuild?
If the Cam sprocket was at 6:00 oclock
and the crankshaft sprocket was at 12:00 oclock then it was correct.
I would then run a compression test to make sure no valves are bent.

Make sure the cam sensor is correct.
Just advice.
