Pontiac Repair: DIC replacement in 2000 Pontiac Montana, compass drive, pontiac montana

Question
I've just swapped out the overhead counsel, including the DIC unit. Now I'm only seeing an invalid direction followed by "--" for the temperature. The other data elements such as fuel, mpg, etc. are blank. The manual for the vehicle just mentions going to the dealer. Any clues for getting this new unit to communicate with the van?

Thanks!

Answer
Hi
Two part answer variation learn then for inaccurate or display "C"

Depress and hold down both the MODE and E/M buttons while the DID is in the Compass/Temperature mode. Ignore the variation zone which shows up after 5 seconds and continue holding the buttons. After ten seconds the DID will acknowledge that calibration is requested by illuminating the C indicator on the compass display if it's not already lit. To calibrate the compass, drive the vehicle through two circles less than 5mph in a magnetically clean area. The C indicator will disappear and the DID will display the proper vehicle display.
