Question
QUESTION: Hello all knowledgeable one!
My wifes Grand Am is stuck in the park position on her auto trannsmission. I can push the brake pedal down which allows the auto gearshift button to be depressed, but the gear shift lever will not shift out of park. It feels like it is hitting a hard blockage. Is there a interlock pin or something?? The car is stuck in a parking lot right now, if there is a interlock, and this is the cause it there any kind of quick manual release method so i can at least get the car home without towing?? Thanks in advance!!

Answer
ok since it is a floor shift, it has a interlock causing it to stay in park until the key is turned and brake depressed , did you or anyone by chance spill or get the area around the shifter wet?> this seems to stick the controll. if not, then i suggest you have  your local shop look at it, i caould tyr to talk you through the testing  but i need to know how confidnet you are with repairs and testing
