Pontiac Repair: 02 Gran Prix ignition, shift lock, stop lamp

Question
"I have a 2002 Grand Prix SE, 3.1 L V6, and the ignition key sticks in the column some of the time. To remove it, I access the Shift Lock Release, following the instructions in the owner's manual, telling how to remove the key if your vehicle has a dead battery. Is there an adjustment to the shift lock release switch in the console that can be done, or is there a part that needs to be replaced to fix this problem. Many times, we have had to lock the car with the key remaining in the ignition re-opening the car with a spare key. Thank you for your help.";

You may have a failing brake switch,the switch controls the transmission shifter interlock/transmission shift lock acuator,or you have a failing transmission shift lock acuator in the shifter,start with replacing the stop lamp switch first.if you need more help let me know.
