Question
hi i have 87 pontiac bonneville 3.8L no start has injection pluse fuel pressure but no spark changed ign module ,coil pack ,cam and crank sensor rebuilt computer checked powers and grounds all good seems hi ref wire wave form out of module not right form as form from both crank and cam also bypass wire no voltage do not know if it should have voltage not running threw to many parts at car already also tried second module thanks

Answer
Hi,Ed

Sounds like you may have a cam sensor phasing problem, the ign module needs cam sensor signal and phasing to control spark, what may have happened is that the cam gear reluctor ring is either broken or it jumped timing due to a failed timing chain, one indicator of this is that the engine will crank over very fast as if there is no compression in the engine,if all the ckts test good,no opens and shorts at both the cam and crank sensors to the ign module i would remove the timing chain cover and check the gears and chain for either broken gear teeth or a failed chain.also GM issued a bulliten in 88 for a failing cam gear reluctor ring, they had a few failures due to poor materials in manufacturing the cam gear and ring, they replaced it with an updated part.let me know what you find, and contact me if you need further help. Thanks
