Hi, I am having a problem with the multifunction switch in my 1997 pontiac sunfire gt, basically the headlights or high beams will not turn on unless I pull the entire switch assenbly towards me sligthy , but I have to hold it there for them to stay on, I pulled the switch apart today and cleaned and lubricated the appropriate contacts with no effect. This is the 3rd switch I have had go on me and at $200(cad) this is ridiculous so hopefully there is a way to fix it

Thanks

Jimmy

Hi, no there is no fixing them. I wish there was. Is there a rod that goes to the switch that runs down side the steeing column?

There is a rod that connects to a set of contacts that slides up and down when you turn the headlights/parking lights on and off and it seems if it is not making contact when it slides all the way down for the headlight setting.... put when you push on it it does..... do you think that stretching the springs on the contacts a little it may take up the slack?

Answer
Ok when you turn your lights on or off you turn a knob on the switch, when you dim your lights you pull back on the lever for low beams and pull back again for high beams. if this is right then the dimer switch is what the rod is connected to. you can try stretching the spring.
