Pontiac Repair: 1997 pontiac grand am wont start, grand am gt, pontiac grand am gt

Question
hi, ive been looking around several places where i could find an answer to my problem. i have a 97 pontiac grand am gt which started fine a little after i got home.. i backed it up cause i was cleaning the inside and i needed a little more light (carport), and then pulled forward again when i was done. couple minutes later i realized i had completely forgotten to do something, tried starting it again to back it up and it wouldnt start.
the engine turns over, sounds like it wants to start and then doesnt. any help? i tried disconnecting the negative terminal of the batery thinking this might help but it didnt.. fuel gauge indicates its a little below the 8th line...
any help would be appreciated.
thanks.

Answer
Hi, turn the key on listen for the fuel pump to come on, you should hear a brief whirring, comeing from the fuel tank.if you do not hear the noise check all fuses if the fuses are good then this could be the fuel pump. If you do hear the pump come on, then you would have to the fire at the plugs, if there is no fire then this could be the ignition module, if ther is fire then this could be the timing or a sensor, Put some gas in it to make sure that it's not out.
