Pontiac Repair: ignition system?, pontiac model, auto parts store

Question
Make: pontiac Model: Grand Am Engine 4 cyl (quad 4)
The first thing i noticed was that the "check oil" light came on.  It may be totally unrelated, but i mention it just in case.  I checked the oil and it was filled correctly.

Over a four day span:
Day one:
I noticed the engine started missing occasionally.  Only one then several hours of nothing.
The next day:
Engine started missing more frequently, but still, i figure it just needed a tune up.
Day 3:
Upon first starting the car, i noticed it missing out more than before, but after a bit, it seemed to subside.
Day 4:
I got in to go to work and it barely made it to the end of my road.  It wouldn't take gas, i could hear it coughing up through the throttle body (the term coughing comes from when i used to work on 80's model cars with my dad and when we'd occasionally see fireballs shoot out of the carbs)  I barely got it back home.  I noticed the "check engine" light was on, and flashing.

I went to my local auto parts store and asked them for suggestions.  THey said i should replace the fuel filter, so i did.  It seems to actually have an effect.  It ran, idled and would actually take gas.  I decided to try to make it to the part store so they could put it on their diagnostic do-dad to see what the trouble code said.  I barely made it, only to find out the only message it said was "random misfires" I believe it was code 0600.  The next item they suggested was the ignition module.  They suggested that i remove mine and bring it in for testing (along with the teo coils).  They tested it and said it failed the test (and that the coils passed).  At 150 bucks, i hoped that that would take care of it.  It did not.  I took out the plugs and found that the two on the right (next to the ignition module) were badly fouled.  I went back to the parts store to purchase some plugs, thinking that the ignition module could have been the culprit in fouling the plugs.  After putting them in, still the problem continued.  I removed the new plugs to find that the same two cylinders were still not firing and that my new plugs were beginning to become fouled.  I checked the coil.  I took it to the parts store and had them test it a second time.  This time they said that the test could have been flawed and that it could very well be the coil.  I purchased/replaced the coil.  The problem continued.  I read the repair manual i have and it suggests the cam (crank?) sensor.  I'm at a loss, what should be my next move?  After sinking over 230 bucks so far into it, what should be my next move?

Answer
I think I can help you Chad. I have run into this numerous times. Your problem is a faulty (shorted) ignition coil housing assembly (the white plastic cover housing the coils its bolted to the aluminum cover) change that along with the spark plug boots ( the boots are optional but I recommend it) that should get your quad running smooth. Here is a link to a diagram you will need parts #6 and 9, 10, 11
