Pontiac Repair: air conditioning for sunfire 1995, sunfire, mechanic

My daughter's car is 1995 sunfire. The a/c does not work. It will not hold the charge. I took it to a mechanic who charged it, worked for few hours and then stopped cooling, The mechanic thinks it needs a new or rebuilt compressor. I found a compressor where she lives.

Question: would a new or rebuilt a/c compress/cluch assembly fix the problem?

There is no way that I can tell you if it will fix the car. I didn't check it for leaks.
If the mechanic only "thinks" that it needs a compressor, maybe you should take to someone who knows how to tell for sure what the problem is, like the dealership.
