Pontiac Repair: trans, torque converter clutch, tcc solenoid

Question
Hello, I have a 2000 Grand Prix GT with a transmission problem. Under light accelleration, mostly on the highway but occasionally in town, it surges at about 2200 rpm. The tach bounces as much as 500 rpm. I believe the problem to be either the pressure control solenoid or the torque converter clutch or solenoid. What I would like to do is disconnect the converter lockup clutch to possibly figure out which one is the problem. Which connector is the torque converter clutch? Also, if I need to replace the pcs, is there anything I should know before doing so? It seems like a pretty straight foreward job, but I thought I should ask first. Also, any other help or insight is much appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help.

Answer
You cant disconnect the tcc solenoid to run tests because the trans will go into a back up mode and you will not be able to tell wheather it corrected the problem.
I cant really tell you how you can determine which is causing the problem but I can tell you that there are alot of problems with both of the solenoids, so if you are into the trans you might as well replace both to save yourself alot of work later. Both replacement parts have been updated and I have not seen any repeat failures. That is if you are going to use GM parts.
The job is pretty simple so there isnt anything to watch out for and out of all of the GM cars that have the problem, the Grand Prix is the easiest to do. After replacing the solenoids you are supposed to reset the trans adapt shift memory. You can only do this with a GOOD scan tool. If you dont have one, just drive the car. It may shift funny for awhile but it should "relearn" how to shift after several miles.
