Pontiac Repair: intermittent starting problems-warm engine, pontiac montana, roadside assitance

Question
I have a 2002 Pontiac Montana.  For the past 2 years, I have had the same problem that has started to occur more often - intermittent problems with the car not starting.  This never occurs on a cold start in the morning - only when I run multiple errands, starting and stopping the car several times over the period of an hour.  The starter is clearly turning over, radio comes on, etc., but the engine would not start.  This never occurs on a cold start.  When I called the Roadside Assitance # - they suggested taking the key out of the ignition, cleaning it with a cotton cloth, waiting 10 minutes and then trying again.  This usually works.  Sometimes, when I try, it doesn't, then I wait another 10 minutes, and it will start.  This now occurs about once per week.  We have had the car into the dealership over 5 times for this problem, once left it for 2 weeks.  But their answer is always the same - "we can't reproduce the problem".  They suggested holding the key in the ignition and letting it crank until it starts - up to 10 seconds - but this does not work.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
What the roadside people are suggesting is that you have a Pass key III anti-theft system problem, which could be the case. The ten minute time that you are waiting is how long it takes the system to "reset". The only problem is that it is also cooling down duing the ten minutes, which could be "fixing" another type of problem.
Since you have had it in to the dealer for so many times for the same condition and they haven't found anything, you might want to try another dealer. I'm sorry I cant help you more but there are so many things that could be causing your no start condition. There are really no common problems. If it is a theft problem, there should be some codes stored in  one of the computers. Maybe your dealer isnt trying hard enough to duplicate your problem.
